Improving communication and swallowing
Speech-language pathology
Our speech-language pathology services focus on helping patients communicate more effectively and swallow safely. Through personalized therapy plans, we aim to improve health, build confidence and strengthen social connections.

Speech-language pathology services
For adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), communication and swallowing challenges can affect daily life and overall well-being. At the Mercer Center for IDD Care, our speech-language pathologists (SLPs) provide personalized care to address these needs.
Our SLPs use tools like alternative communication systems and other strategies to help patients express themselves and understand others. We also focus on improving speech clarity, pronunciation and fluency to make communication easier.
Swallowing therapy is another key part of our services. Many individuals with IDD face challenges with eating and swallowing, which can lead to choking or other health risks. Our therapists work to improve these skills, ensuring safety during mealtimes.
We also involve caregivers and families in the process, providing education and strategies to support progress at home.
